How are you?

I am a teacher. I am core-certified 4–8. This means that I can teach any of the core subjects for grades 4–8. (I am certainly not qualified to teach Math, but ok.) I am also certified to teach Theater Arts K-12.

While I am currently teaching Middle School Theater in a public school in a moderately affluent district, I have taught in a small, private Catholic School and a public charter school. These schools are eligible for Title 1 monies.

I am very aware of working without resources. The resources all teachers need, regardless of their schools financial status, is time. This is especially true now.

My school is coming to the end of the first grading cycle. This event causes borderline psychosis for teachers at any time. But this is the first grading cycle in a global pandemic.

Like many schools, we quarantined from March 14 through the end of the school year. Yes, it was problematic. Yes our teaching wasn’t as effective as it was during the rest of the year, but as any teacher will tell you, that’s just par for the course after Spring Break. No one knew how to teach virtually, and no one had a plan, per se. My district set a plan and sent a template so we had some guidance. Electives were to assign one hour of work per week. This meant I had a little bit of extra time to make fun videos for my students reminding them that even though they didn’t see…
